My Story

My name is Terence (Terry) Cook, born and raised in Chile and of British ancestry.

My dear parents were avid golfers and I took up the game at the early age of six. It didn’t hurt that we lived a stone´s throw away from the Prince of Wales Country Club, in Santiago, (home of the Nationwide´s Chile Classic) and not surprisingly, I got totally hooked on the game.

As a teenager I read everything I could get my hands on about the game and was fascinated by the PGA TOUR. But, alas, I was never good enough to think about becoming a pro, and like so many other young players, I couldn’t seem to manage the pressure of competitive golf.

I went to college and got a degree in B.A. in the Escuela de Negocios de Valparaiso (Adolfo Ibañez University), went to work for three multinationals (B.A.T, PEPSICO and UNISYS), formed a wonderful family and took early retirement at 50, to re-concentrate on the passion of my life......golf.

Starting in 2001, I worked hard at my game, but never got below a four handicap, and yes, I continued my old habit of choking under pressure.

In 2007 I started studying the MIND, and developed my own Mental Method, to conquer choking under pressure.

IT WORKED !!!!!!!

I started winning tournaments that I could never win before.

Club Champion 2010. With my caddie, Hector Gonzalez
Two top flight Club Championships (at age 59 and 60), three Chilean National Senior Championships and many, many others.

A year and a half ago I launched my spanish speaking BLOG with the article “Me aburrí de arrugar", or in english, “I got tired of choking” and today, some 220 articles later, I launch my english speaking BLOG under the name TERENCE (TERRY) COOK´S MENTAL GOLF BLOG.

As I have done in my spanish speaking BLOG, I will concentrate on three subjects or categories:

1. The Mind and golf (Mental Golf)

2. My personal mental experience in golf competitions (My news)

3. My opinions regarding the Mind at the top level of world competitive golf (Mind at the top)

I have become a Mental Golf Coach for others and offer, in Chile, three different workshops.

Two workshops for low handicappers, and one one for the mid and higher handicap players.

I am also available to speak to groups on the subject of Mind Control for golfers.

Today, at almost 62 years of age, I am playing the best golf of my life (0.6 handicap Index), and I would love to share with you the mental and behavioral techniques and concepts that have allowed me to be so successful at this wonderful game.
